The new Branch was to be called the Stock and Agriculture Branch. However, later the same year, it was decided that no further action would be taken on the amalgamation, pending consideration of the Forster Committee report on Agricultural Development in the Northern Territory.
In 1965 the head office of the Animal Industry Branch moved from Alice Springs to Darwin. It appears that at the time of the move of the Branch to Darwin an Alice Springs local office was established.
Approval was given in 1965 for the amalgamation of the Agricultural Branch and Animal Industry Branch, and the new Branch was named the Animal Industry and Agriculture Branch.
On 31 March 1966, with the creation of the position of Director, Animal Industry and Agriculture Branch, the Animal Industry Branch and the Agriculture Branch merged to form the Animal Industry and Agriculture Branch.
